CONSORT Flow Diagram Generator

A CONSORT flow diagram reports how participants move through a randomized trial. It shows eligibility assessment, exclusions, randomisation, allocation, receipt of intervention, follow-up, discontinuation, loss to follow-up, primary outcome analysis, and exclusions from analysis. Readers use it to understand participant attrition and the analysis population.

CONSORT tracks individual participants through one randomized trial: enrolment, allocation, follow-up, and analysis. PRISMA tracks records, reports, and studies through a systematic review: identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. They answer different reporting questions and are not interchangeable.

The generator uses the CONSORT 2025 two-group participant-flow structure. CONSORT 2025 retains the familiar enrolment, allocation, follow-up, and analysis stages while updating the wider reporting guideline. This is a drafting tool, not an official certification, so verify the figure against current official guidance and journal instructions.

The live generator currently creates the common two-group parallel-trial layout. You can open the exported diagram in Studio to add arms, periods, clusters, or custom notes, but complex designs should be checked against the relevant CONSORT extension and reviewed by the trial statistician or methodologist.

SVG preserves vector quality and PNG works in many manuscript systems, but acceptance depends on the journal, article type, figure dimensions, and required CONSORT extension. Check the journal instructions before submission and keep the editable source so you can respond to production requests.

The current free generator does not upload Excel or CSV files. Prepare verified aggregate counts in your spreadsheet, then copy them into the matching enrolment, allocation, follow-up, and analysis fields. Do not upload or enter names, record numbers, dates of birth, or other participant identifiers.

Yes. Download SVG for a scalable figure that current Word versions can insert, or use PNG for broad compatibility. To create a PDF, place the figure in your manuscript or slide file and export that document as PDF. Check the target journal’s required dimensions and resolution first.

Yes. You can enter counts, validate the main totals, preview the diagram, and download SVG or PNG without signing up or adding a watermark. Opening the figure in Studio requires an account because it creates an editable project.
